Why travel is so good for you ✈️

Hello again fellow travelers,

Do you ever notice how there’s a little more spring in your step when you have a trip on the calendar?

Turns out there’s a reason for that.

Travel is actually good for your mental health, and even planning a trip can lift your mood. We’ve even written about some of the very good reasons to travel (so you never have to feel guilty about booking that flight!).

To spark a little wanderlust, we thought we’d share some of the most unforgettable trips we’ve ever taken...

An African river safari

We woke up to the sound of grunting hippos. We drifted past crocodiles and countless birds. And we watched elephants splashing in the river at sunset as we sipped South African wine on deck.

Our Chobe River safari aboard the Zambezi Queen was the perfect blend of luxury, amazing wildlife and pure wow!

Two weeks of Turkish delights

One day we were wandering Istanbul’s bustling bazaars. The next, we were floating over Cappadocia in a hot-air balloon at sunrise. From ancient Roman ruins and fairy chimneys to lovely boutique hotels and lazy afternoons by the turquoise coast, Turkey completely stole our hearts.

Want to go? Here’s exactly how to spend two fabulous weeks in Turkey.

Bora Bora Bliss

We slipped straight from our deck into the warm turquoise lagoon, lazed in our overwater bungalow and gazed out at dramatic Mount Otemanu. It was every bit as dreamy as we’d imagined!

We stayed at the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, but we also snooped around other resorts — all featured in our write-up of Bora Bora’s beautiful overwater bungalows.)

Hello fellow travelers! We’re going back to Sri Lanka! Okay, not for a while yet. But the flights are booked, the hotels are reserved — and we’re already getting excited. We’ve been before. We explored the ancient treasures in Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle — like climbing between Sigiriya’s enormous stone lion paws to reach its spectacular summit and Sky Palace. And we rode the Kandy-to-Ella train, truly one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys. We hung out the open door too on the...

Hello, hello! The lions are bullet-fast... “Hang on!” yells our safari guide, Pierre Mouton. Veering off-road, we crash after them through the bush. Just moments before, the pride had been sauntering slowly across a grassy plain – out for a stroll, we thought. But no, these lions are hunting. We’re on a “Big 5” safari in South Africa’s Sabi Sand Game Reserve. And, now, as we screech to a halt in front of them, we see they’ve already taken down their kill. Sitting fanned out like spokes in a...

Hello again fellow travelers, Have you ever stayed in a cave hotel? We have — and they’re nothing like what you might imagine. Now, we’re not talking about a damp hobbit hole or some Disney-esque cave hotel built as a gimmick. We mean hotels built into landscapes where people have lived in caves for centuries — ancient dwellings now transformed into some of the world’s most extraordinary hotels.
